Membership Director - The Chartered Institute of Plumbing and Heating Engineering (CIPHE)

The CIPHE wishes to appoint a Membership Director (MD) to enhance its services to fully engage members and potential members, consistent with its Strategic Plan.

The MD will report to the CEO and will be part of the Executive Team, with the job location subject to mutual agreement. The MD will enhance the CIPHE’s standing so that it is unequivocally the leader in membership services and education in the sector.

Significant early priorities will be to improve services to increase membership and retain current members, and to maintain the CIPHE’s Engineering Council license for Chartered Engineer, Incorporated Engineer and Engineering Technician registration.

The MD will raise the CIPHE’s educational provision through new programmes that increase the skills of plumbing & heating professionals, including webinars, e/learning modules and career guidance.

The MD will oversee the upgrading of an IT Database to improve membership management, subscriptions’ collection and record keeping. He/she will also update the CIPHE’s website to project a modern, professional image.

When required the MD will undertake media work on behalf of CIPHE. The MD will lead up to 8 staff in Membership, IT and Support Services, building a team of purposeful, committed colleagues.

Membership Development Officer – Midlands (part time) - The Chartered Institute of Plumbing and Heating Engineering (CIPHE) 

The MDO will report to the recently appointed Membership Manager (based at CIPHE headquarters in Hornchurch, Greater London).

The job will be located in the Midlands area; working hours will be 21 per week.

The successful candidate will have significant experience of growing membership in a members driven organisation. You will organise attendance at exhibitions and visit current Industrial Associates, other manufacturers and training organisations to promote the merits of CIPHE, and ensure follow-up so that new member applications are achieved. Further, you will identify colleges with potential to become CIPHE Approved Training Centres (ATCs) and sources of new members.

Technical Officer - The Chartered Institute of Plumbing and Heating Engineering (CIPHE)

The TO will report to the recently appointed Technical Director and the job location will be subject to mutual agreement.

The successful candidate will:

  •  Manage daily Technical Enquiries from all sources prioritising urgent enquires;
  •  Write regular articles for the p&he Journal;
  •  Assist Technical Director to produce Technical Guides including obtaining copy from authors, arrange peer reviews, proof reading and editing;
  •  Work with the volunteer based Technical Interest Groups (TIGs) undertaking projects in areas such as Water Safety, Heating & Controls, Hot & Cold Water Services, Drainage, and Renewable technologies;
  •  Build effective relationships with Industrial Associates (IAs) to secure their professional contribution to the TIGs and to educational initiatives, and to obtain articles for publications;
  •  Enhance CIPHE's CPD resources, developing new e-learning modules with IA volunteers, and organise live technical courses and webinars;
  •  Support the investigation phase of the Complaints Process;
  •  Raise the status of the CIPHE in the plumbing and heating engineering sector.
