New guide to saving lives in the bathroom
[Back to Press Releases]
A shocking image of a very painful scald and some startling statistics underpin the seriousness of a new publication from the Bathroom Manufacturers Association.
• Hot bath water can kill. It is responsible for the highest number of fatal injuries in the home.
• Each year about 20 people die from scalding.
• Each year about 570 people suffer major disfigurement from scalding.
• Second and third degree burns can result from uncontrolled hot water.
The very young and the very old, with thin skin, are the most vulnerable.
Scalding is deadly serious and an excellent new leaflet from the BMA provides an in-depth and informative guide to saving lives with a Thermostatic Mixing Valve (TMV)
The TMV is a simple, effective and inexpensive piece of bathroom equipment which prevents scalding water being used. This new guide is a valuable source of information for anyone concerned about care in the bathroom.
The guide, which is one in a special series published by the BMA, is downloadable from the BMA’s Bathroom Academy website www.bathroom-academy.co.uk/guides2.asp. It goes into detail about the TMV; what it is, where it is used and how it can vastly improve safety in the bathroom. It also goes into the dangers of uncontrolled hot water. The readable text and excellent images bring home the importance of the TMV.
If you’re planning a new bathroom be safe and ask your plumber about the installation of a TMV.
